Vocal Camp on Lake Simcoe July 23-27, 2008

We will have plenty of time to learn many new songs, as usual an eclectic assortment of songs of various village singing traditions from around the world.

WorldSongs Vocal Camp is an intensive experience. Everyone is welcome, whatever your musical background or training, but the camp is meant for those who really love to sing and who feel that learning new songs, rehearsing and singing all day long is a taste of paradise.

A typical day will include three rehearsal times (morning: 9:30-11:30, afternoon: 2:30-5:00 and evening: 7:30 -9:00), as well as opportunities for small group and individual instruction.

Leading the singing will be Alan Gasser, Becca Whitla and other leaders TBA very soon.

After several hours of practice in a day, singers sometimes like to spend a free evening singing together! There will be an opportunity for those who wish to perform in an in-house cabaret or talent show towards the end of the retreat to strut their stuff! We will also perform together in a public concert at the end of the camp.

There will be at least one afternoon of free time, so that you can rest and rejuvenate or tour about and see some of the historic sights in the area.

Sleeping accommodation is shared and singers will join in light cooking and cleaning duties together. A few tenting spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Along with our love of world music, Canadians love to eat food from around the world. Our meals will be simple, healthy, plentiful, fresh, eclectic and delicious. Susan Reid, our fabulous cook from 2007 is back by popular demand. Specific dietary needs will be taken into account in our planning, as much as possible. Eating meals together is very much a part of the shared community of the WorldSongs experience. We have a food coordinator on staff to organize meals but we all help in the prep, serving and cleanup. Expect your co-campers to burst into spontaneous song while doing the dishes, setting the table and sharing in preparing the daily meals.
